How Backspace Habits Slow You Down
Reflexively hammering Backspace after every tiny error costs more time than you realize.
Many typists develop a nervous habit of correcting every single mistake the instant it happens, even in a speed test where the scoring may not require it. Each trip to Backspace and back to the home row interrupts your rhythm and burns precious tenths of a second.
In a timed test, consider whether correction is actually worth it for the scoring method you are using. Sometimes pressing on and accepting a small accuracy hit yields a higher net score than stopping to fix every minor slip, especially late in the run.
More importantly, a high correction rate is a symptom. If you are constantly backspacing, your fingers are outrunning your accuracy. Slow down slightly, reduce the errors at the source, and your Backspace key will go quiet along with a rising net speed.
