Ergonomic Typing Posture to Prevent Wrist Pain

A. Volkov 2 min read2026-05-10

Speed means nothing if typing hurts. Set up your body correctly and your hands will thank you for years.

Good posture starts at the chair. Your feet should rest flat on the floor, your thighs roughly parallel to the ground, and your back supported so you are not hunching toward the screen. The top of your monitor should sit near eye level so your neck stays neutral.

At the keyboard, your forearms should be roughly parallel to the floor with your wrists floating in a straight, neutral line rather than bent up or resting hard on a surface. A gentle negative tilt, where the far edge of the keyboard sits lower, keeps the wrists even more relaxed.

Take micro-breaks. Every twenty to thirty minutes, drop your hands, roll your shoulders, and stretch your fingers. Repetitive strain injuries build silently over months, and these tiny pauses are the cheapest insurance you will ever buy for your hands.
